BASIS OF THE SAFE PET PROGRAM
With increasing litigation, dog owners are facing increased risks of lawsuits and liability for pet-related altercations, as well as increases in insurance premiums and restrictions on policies. Our Safe Pet Program is designed to not only decrease the chances of your dog being involved in an unfortunate incident, but to provide pet owners with a training certificate of completion as proof of your due diligence in seeking proper control, training and handling methods for your dog. Protect your dog, your family and your personal interests - enroll your dog in our Safe Pet Program, today!
Basic Elements of the Safe Pet Program
1. Proper Socialization - A safe pet is able to encounter friendly strangers without incident.
2. Meet n Greet - A safe pet is able to accept friendly interactions, such as petting, from a stranger without incident.
3. Handling & Care - A safe pet accepts the incidental handling associated with regular and veterinarian care. The pet cooperates with commands during an examination.
4. Handler Attentiveness - When on a loose lead, a safe pet is mindful of his handler, is paying attention and obediently following the handler's lead at all times.
5. Canines & Crowds - A safe pet can negotiate his way through a crowd, at his handler's side, without becoming distracted, vocal, tense, timid or aggressive.
6. Sit-Stay-Down - A safe pet understands and obeys these commands ON command.
7. Canine Encounters - A safe pet is able to meet another dog without becoming distracted, vocal, tense, timid or aggressive.
8. Distractions & Dogs - A safe pet is able to encounter common distractions such as a bicycle, horns or children running with only mild curiosity.
9. Ad-hoc Handlers - A safe pet is able to accept impromptu handling by a friendly stranger, without incident.
Dog owners and handlers will be required to complete a 4-hour handler's workshop as part of the Basic Safe Pet program. Upon successful completion of this workshop, a handler's certificate of completion will be issued.
