Pep's Paternal Protectiveness:  During Hurricane Ike, Pep was kept in the corral while the mares and colts were let loose on the ranch to weather the storm.  During the throes of hurricane force winds, a tree came down separating the colt 'Twist' from the rest of the herd.  Running and screaming in the midst of the tempest, the frightened colt heard Pep calling back to him.  When the colt got to the corral, the stallion kicked down the gate and brought the colt in with him.  We found the two hunkered down in the cattle chutes after the storm.  Pep had taken the colt to shelter between the iron panels and then stood over him, protecting the young horse from the raging storm.  He quickly became Twist's hero and for weeks, the two were inseparable.  See pic at bottom left of this page.

About Pep

Pep has an amazing temperament; he will do anything that is asked of him. You can lead him with just an arm around his neck. He is an exceptionally cooperative horse. Calm, level headed and takes everything in stride.

A sight to see when he runs across the pasture, visitors to the ranch almost always comment on his beautiful color - a creamy white coat contrasting against dark eyes.

Pep is well started and makes an excellent mount for our ranch guests and beginner riders. He makes a great steady partner for ranch work or a leisurely ride out.   Always in the first remuda selected for trail rides and working the ranch, Pep can be counted on to plow through work.

We have had numerous inquiries about using him for roping. He may have a bright future in that arena.
